Best area caches?

I know we've got a lot of new cachers in the area. Anyone have any caches they want to promote as being awesome?

I'm a big fan of the two What's Missing caches: Alma (GC1WWPZ) and St. Louis (GC1VE0P). They are challenging puzzle caches, but very different from anything else we have around here.

I also enjoyed Munkman's Head (GC15GET) in Midland. It's hard to get anything to stay put in this area due to the constant flooding, but they've got it figured out.

If you enjoy puzzles/webcam caches, Middle of the Mitten WebCam is great (GCH48P). It was my first webcam, and I love it.

Any of the In Plain Sight series are great (the closest being GCXJ10 in Freeland).

So far im still stuck on how awesome survey says was. it was alot of fun getting to the final stage of that cache

Being out and about yesterday, we only hit one (size). We were surprised at how wet the area was being that there is a hill (and a creek that water should drain into). There were large amounts of standing water.

We were fortunate to get the right coordinates the first time around, but it was a nice placement.

We were running into a GPS problem. My accuracy was between 30 and 40 feet and putting us nowhere near the cache! My sister finally got her smartphone out so we were able to find it. I really need a new GPS (that I haven't dropped on the car floor a million times).

lol thats what my smart phone gps does it bounces all over the place all the time it bugs me

You can get a Garmin eTrex (Legend) fairly cheap. It's what I use, and I've been happy with it (up until now). The issues I'm having are my own fault.

i might have to look into that, what i like about using a phone though is that i can do everything right from my phone, find a cache i want to go to, then navigate to it with driving directions, compass, and map, then when i find the cache i can log it and move on to the next one.. maybe i just need a new phone with better gps

Fair enough. It was helpful when we were in Cleveland because we didn't know our way around. I don't have a smartphone, though, so I don't have that option.

No... but you cache with me most of the time! The only downside to using my phone is that it drains the battery quicker. Oh well... that's what car chargers are for!

I enjoyed the night caches in City Forest. Hint: use a LED flashlight - the tacks reflect much better!

i hate how fast it kills my battery. and we have a little cavalier that we use for caching as it gets better mileage that my truck does and the cig lighter in that car doesnt work so i gotta get that fixed

We finished up the Survey Says series today - I enjoyed it! I think it's one of the better series around this area.

yea i loved that series we had a blast on the one you made too "a real scavenger hunt" even though we apparently goofed up a bit

I intended to do it differently so that it required pictures rather than me providing them, but the geocaching guidelines do not allow for "additional logging requirements." My sister came up with this idea instead.

oh i get ya. still i really enjoyed this one because it was fun trying to figure out exactly where u were standing and at some places there could have been more than one option so you had to be pretty precise to where you were standing
